Last summer saw the first ever Smartly.io Summer Squad, when Antti, Anton, Arash Roope and Siiri joined the team. Now, we're looking for brilliant young talents to squad up for 2017. We’ve collected a few questions and answers on Summer Squad that you might want to check out. Hope you find these useful and they provide an extra pinch of motivation to apply!
What do Summer Squad members do?
Summer Squad does pretty much the same stuff as other Smartlies. All Squad members work as full-fledged members of our teams in Engineering, Service Operations, Customers and Marketing, depending on their background and interests. You might find it useful browsing through our different job ads to get a better grip of the daily work.
The tasks will be very hands-on, solving actual challenges we face daily. Prepare to plunge into product development, bug fixing, customer communications, or blog writing for example. Also, everyone at Smartly.io does customer support regularly, and so will the Summer Squad members.
Will I be doing something with the other Squad members?
It depends. Most of the time you’ll work with your functional team. Summer Squad members might have some shared development projects. At Smartly.io, we have many different unofficial activities, like biweekly saunas, monthly sports, not to forget weekly breakfasts and beers, where you’ll get to know and hang out with other Summer Squad members and Smartlies.
When will my internship start?
Summer Squad is a 4-month internship, starting during the spring or summer. Please do note that we’re very flexible to adjust the start and end dates case by case. We’re always in need of great talents, so if you’d like to work with us already earlier during the spring, don’t hesitate to shoot us a message!
Where will I be working?
Summer Squad will work in any of the Smartly.io offices in Helsinki, Berlin, San Francisco, NYC or Singapore. We require that you're permitted to work in the city you're applying to. Working may include travelling.
Are applications processed as they come in?
Yup. We’ll proceed with the applications as we get them, so you might get instructions for homework assignments or invitations to an interview before the deadline. We’ll try to reply all applications within 2 weeks.
How can I get hired to Summer Squad?
The Summer Squad recruiting process is very similar to how we recruit in general. We expect a doer attitude, a drive to develop your skills to new levels, an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and technical skills.
If you have a programming background, Coding Lane is the way for you. The first step is to crack our Fast Track, after which we’ll hold a technical onsite interview, and finally there’s an onsite coding exercise.
In the Business Track, which can lead to a position in our Customers, Service Operations or Marketing teams, your ability and motivation to learn fast is the key. After reviewing your application, there will be two homework assignments to complete. The next steps will include a Facebook advertising interview and a Smartly.io’s sales demo.
Our recruiting process is tough – but so are you!
Could I end up working for Smartly.io after Summer Squad?
Joining the Summer Squad is a great way to land a permanent job at Smartly.io. We always hire people who we’d see joining the team beyond summer. That’s also why our recruiting process for Summer Squad is so similar to our standard recruiting steps.
Why should I join Smartly.io instead of a consulting firm? Or another startup?
Our mission at Smartly.io is to maximize learning for our people: we believe that Smartly.io is the place where you can learn and grow the most during a summer. As a Summer Squad member, you’ll get to take ownership of your work, solve challenging problems and be in close contact with our customers. It’s also a great opportunity to see what it is to work in a growth company serving a global market.
