Senior Backend Engineer (Image & video rendering)
We are looking for an experienced backend focused developer to join team Render, the team responsible for building and operating our image and video rendering platform. The team is currently working on improving our video rendering solution which is built in typescript & node and is run in kubernetes.
Our users create image- and video templates to showcase products with the Smartly template editor. These templates can be combined with product information in order to create images or videos. This is what team Render does, we provide the platform for generating images and videos. Billions of them.
The rendering platforms are distributed systems spanning hundreds of physical servers to meet the demands for the massive load and reliable service. To give some sense of the scale, currently our systems are generating over 200TB of images and videos daily.

As a Senior Backend Developer you will:
- Design, build and operate distributed image and video rendering systems running on Kubernetes.
- Write maintainable, robust and well tested code.
- Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers in the team.
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including working with product and the team building the template editors.
What we are looking for:
- Excellent skills and understanding of Node.js
- Professional experience with TypeScript
- Experience with linux and distributed systems
- Some experience with web frontend, ideally React.
- Bonus points for: Redis, Varnish Cache, HAProxy, Kubernetes, Puppeteer, Chromium
- Team player mentality and genuine interest to support and mentor junior team members
- Motivation for solving customers’ problems and delivering value to customers at a fast pace.
