Engineering Director, Infrastructure
We’re looking for a Director of Engineering, Infrastructure Group to join our product organization at the Smartly.io headquarters in Helsinki.
Smartly is growing fast and we need your experience and drive to help us continue at this velocity. As our brand new Director of Engineering, Infrastructure Group you’ll be leading our production infrastructure, development tools, data warehousing and internal systems teams and growing our capabilities in other areas, such as SRE and Information Security. The goal is to ensure that we are able to provide a reliable service to our customers, improve the development tools for our engineers and enable the whole company with access to data that drives our decision making and product features. As part of this role you will be working as a member of the Engineering Leadership team for the company, having real impact. We believe in automating our infrastructure as much as possible and pursuing challenging problems in a sustainable and repeatable way. We’re growing fast and want to make sure we can scale our infrastructure in a more sustainable way than linearly. Currently, our infrastructure processes petabytes of data every month through hundreds of servers.

Here’s What You'll Do
- Mentor, grow, and empower your teams by giving them the skills, confidence and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success, and help them to become technical leaders
- Think ahead and drive the work on vision and roadmap for Smartly.io infrastructure, developer happiness and data platforms
- Work with our Product Engineering teams to uncover bottlenecks your teams can help resolve and communicate clear boundaries with other teams
- Make sure that our entire engineering team has the best tools they need to seamlessly and efficiently ship code every day
- Partner with recruiting to help scale the Infrastructure teams by actively sourcing and closing the best talent
- Bring out the best in the individuals in your teams by enabling them to do the best work of their lives
- Ensure our services communicate with each other seamlessly, have minimal downtime, and recover quickly
- Impact the productivity and happiness of our entire team with the tools we build
Here's What We're Looking For
- Several years of experience successfully managing teams of engineers on large-scale projects
- Ability to set a long-term vision for the team and drive long-term execution towards that vision
- Product mindset that helps your teams identify internal needs towards them and a track record of balancing reactive work with working towards ambitious goals
- Good at communicating organizational boundaries, setting expectations with others, and interfacing with product engineering teams
- Able to mentor, coach, and develop engineers to do the best work of their lives. Works to forge the bonds of a strong team
- Track record of hiring engineers at scale
- Understands the importance of security and compliance when working with personal data
- Familiarity with our stack: Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker, Logstash, Jenkins, Grafana, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch
- Hybrid Cloud: 1000+ dedicated servers and Private Cloud, Infrastructure as code
